- Core 2 Duo Intel, minimum of Dual G5
- 4GB RAM (you can run with less RAM, but you may experience page swapping to disk depending on the number and complexity of the files you are indexing)
- Any standard Mac hardware that will run Mac OS X 10.5.8 or higher
- Minimum screen resolution is 1280 x 800 (MacBook Screen)
- Apple Spotlight
- An internet connection to activate the PageZephyr product
- Minimum 5GB of Free Disk Space (When indexing large amounts of files you may need more free disk space. This is used as temp scratch space, so if you have less free disk space you may run out of memory or you may see your system respond very sluggishly as Virtual Memory requirements increase.)
F.A.Q
Does PageZephyr require that I have InDesign or Quark loaded on my computer?
PageZephyr is a standalone application that allows you to search and convert the text content of InDesign, Publisher and Quark documents . The native applications do not need to be loaded or installed in order for PageZephyr to function.
Since PageZephyr is a Mac only application, can PageZephyr handle files created on Windows computers?
Yes. PageZephyr can handle InDesign and Quark files created on either Mac or Windows computers. MS Publisher is a Windows only application and PageZephyr can handle these files as well.
Does PageZephyr alter my original document?
No, PageZephyr does not alter your original InDesign, Publisher or Quark file in any way. The edit capabilities of PageZephyr allow you to edit and repurpose text that has been extracted out of your InDesign, Publisher or Quark documents.
How many files can PageZephyr handle?
We have tried several thousand files here. Theoretically the system limitations for a 64 bit application (under Snow Leopard) are the maximum number of files that can be handled. But, just like Spotlight, PageZephyr will tax your system resources (CPU Usage, Physical Memory, Virtual Memory, Free Disk Space) when large numbers of files are being processed.
There are less files indexed than I would have expected. Can you help with this?
We strive to make PageZephyr handle as wide a range of files as we can. If you look in the Activity Window, you will see stats for Indexed, Failed and Unsupported files. If you are missing files, please check these lists for your missing file. PageZephyr allows you to collect the Failed and Unsupported files, with the hope that you will send these files to us for inspection. This will help us improve the product. The best way to send us the collected archives of Failed or Unsupported files is to use the PageZephyr Tech Support Form. If your archive exceeds 1GB in size, please let us know and we will work with you to get the files into us for inspection.
Can I use PageZephyr in an automated workflow?
Using the standard versions of PageZephyr in an automated workflow is prohibited by the License Agreement. If you are interested in using PageZephyr in an automated workflow, please contact our Business Development Group at bizdev@markzware.com
I am a large corporate customer and 30 days is just not long enough to evaluate PageZephyr. Is there anything I can do?
Yes, please contact our Sales Department and request an extended demo. Someone will evaluate your request and let you know if we can accommodate your request.
Do I need internet access to use PageZephyr?
Internet access is required to activate PageZephyr. To actually use PageZephyr you will only require internet access to de-activate the product or if you wish to post content to your personal PageZephyr website.

In PageZephyr Search & Extract and in the Demo version of PageZephyr you can edit the text content displayed in the Storyboard Window. It is important to understand that you are not in any way altering the original InDesign, Quark or Publisher document or the text that is located in these documents. You are creating a new document that can be exported as RTF, TXT or uploaded to your PageZephyr website.
To get content into the Storyboard Window (1), either click on a document icon which will display all stories for that document, or click on the disclosure triangle for a document which will expose all stories for that document and then select the stories you are interested in. You can select individual stories from several documents and mix them together by holding down the Command Key/Apple Key and clicking on several stories. (**Note – In order to mix stories from several documents you must open the disclosure triangles for all documents you want to select stories from.) You can alsoremove a story from the Storyboard Window by holding down the Command Key/Apple Key and clicking on a story that is already highlighted in the File List(2) located on the left portion of the window.
Once you have content in the Storyboard Window, you can add, delete and change text as well as change the font face, font size and color of the font. Unless you export as RTF, you will not see any of the font face, font size or font color changes! Exporting as plain text (TXT) strips out all of the formatting.
